60-minute, one-on-one physical therapy for shoulder pain, rotator cuff problems and frozen shoulder with Ariel Osharenko, PT, at the On Point clinic at 44-01 21st Street, Suite 203 (between Queens Plaza and Court Square), or in your home anywhere in NYC. Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM. (347) 871-6814.

Shoulder problems I treat

  • Rotator cuff tendon pain and tears.
  • Pain lifting the arm overhead (often called impingement).
  • Frozen shoulder.
  • Shoulder instability and dislocations.
  • Labrum injuries.
  • AC joint sprains.
  • Pain with bench press, overhead press or the Olympic lifts.
  • Rehab after shoulder surgery.

How I treat shoulder pain

  • Assess the whole chain. Shoulder range and strength, shoulder-blade control, and a neck check, because neck problems can refer pain to the arm.
  • Strengthen what supports the shoulder. Progressive loading of the rotator cuff and shoulder-blade muscles. See evidence-based rotator cuff exercises.
  • Restore movement. Mobility work and hands-on care, including dry needling when it helps.
  • Return to overhead work and lifting. We adjust technique and load, then build back to full training.

When to see a doctor first

  • Shoulder or arm pain with chest pain, shortness of breath or sweating: call 911.
  • Sudden weakness or numbness in the arm or face: call 911.
  • A fall with an obvious deformity, or you can’t lift the arm at all.
  • A hot, swollen shoulder with fever.

What happens at your first visit

Sixty minutes, one-on-one. We go through your history, I test range, strength and your neck, explain what’s going on, and we start treatment the same day.

Who this isn’t for

  • If you need an in-network clinic, I’m out-of-network.
  • If any of the warning signs above apply, see a doctor first.

Insurance and cost

On Point Physical Therapy is an out-of-network, private-pay practice. However, as a courtesy to our patients, we offer direct insurance billing. Our billing specialist will submit claims on your behalf to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement, subject to the benefits and coverage of your individual plan.

No referral needed to start. New York’s Direct Access law lets you see a licensed physical therapist without a prescription for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first.

Frequently asked questions

Does a rotator cuff tear always need surgery? No. Many partial tears, and some full tears, are treated with exercise-based rehab. Your surgeon decides about surgery; I can help you build strength before and after either way.

How long does frozen shoulder last? It often improves over many months, and sometimes takes longer. Physical therapy helps you manage pain and keep as much movement as possible while it runs its course.

Should I stop lifting? Usually not completely. We change the exercises, grip, range or load that irritate the shoulder and keep you training while it recovers.

Could my shoulder pain be coming from my neck? Sometimes. That’s why I check your neck at the first visit. Arm pain with numbness or tingling can come from the neck.

Do you treat shoulders after surgery? Yes, including rotator cuff repair and stabilization surgery. See post-surgery physical therapy.
