60-minute, one-on-one physical therapy for rehab after surgery with Ariel Osharenko, PT, at the On Point clinic at 44-01 21st Street, Suite 203 (between Queens Plaza and Court Square), or in your home anywhere in NYC. Monday to Friday, 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM. (347) 871-6814.

Surgeries I rehab

  • ACL reconstruction: see ACL rehab in NYC.
  • Meniscus repair and meniscectomy.
  • Rotator cuff repair and shoulder stabilization (labrum) surgery.
  • Achilles tendon repair and ankle surgery.
  • Hip arthroscopy.
  • Knee and hip replacement.

How post-surgery rehab works with me

  • Your surgeon’s protocol comes first. I follow their restrictions and timelines and keep them updated.
  • Early phase. Control swelling and pain, restore range of motion, wake up the muscles and walk normally again.
  • Strength phase. Progressive strength work, using blood flow restriction training when heavy loading isn’t allowed yet.
  • Return to activity. Testing and a step-by-step plan back to work, sport or the gym.

Recovery also depends on things outside the clinic, like sleep and nutrition. More on knee recovery: rehabilitation and healing after ACL reconstruction.

Bring to your first visit

  • Your surgeon’s protocol and/or prescription, if you have them.
  • Your operative report, if you have it.
  • Any brace, sling or crutches you were given.

When to call your surgeon or 911

  • Chest pain or sudden shortness of breath: call 911.
  • A painful, swollen calf (possible blood clot): seek care the same day.
  • Fever, or redness, warmth or drainage around the incision: call your surgeon.
  • A sudden loss of movement or strength you had before.

Who this isn’t for

  • If you need an in-network clinic, I’m out-of-network.
  • If your surgeon wants you in a specific program, follow their referral.

Insurance and cost

On Point Physical Therapy is an out-of-network, private-pay practice. However, as a courtesy to our patients, we offer direct insurance billing. Our billing specialist will submit claims on your behalf to your insurance provider for potential out-of-network reimbursement, subject to the benefits and coverage of your individual plan.

No referral needed to start. New York’s Direct Access law lets you see a licensed physical therapist without a prescription for up to 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first.

Frequently asked questions

When should physical therapy start after surgery? It depends on the operation and your surgeon. After many knee and shoulder surgeries it starts within days. I follow your surgeon’s protocol and timelines.

Can you come to my home after surgery? Yes. The first weeks are often easier at home. In-home sessions are the same 60 minutes, one-on-one.

Do I need a prescription? New York’s Direct Access law lets you start without one for up to 10 visits or 30 days. After surgery, please bring your surgeon’s protocol or prescription so we follow the same plan.

Should I do physical therapy before surgery? Often yes. Getting stronger beforehand (pre-hab) helps recovery afterwards, especially before ACL surgery. See ACL rehab.

How do you build strength when I can’t lift heavy yet? With blood flow restriction training, which lets you build muscle with light loads in the early weeks.
